AYSO Extra U11B Team
/What is AYSO EXTRA?
AYSO EXTRA is a program that provides the opportunity for highly skilled players to play soccer at a more challenging level. Each year, AYSO regions lose players and volunteers (coaches and refs) to club organizations because their children want to play soccer at the highest possible level of competition. EXTRA allows players to play against the best teams from nearby regions and areas to experience a higher level of competition while keeping costs reasonable and travel commitments light.
What’s New?
Region 17 has voted to participate in the 2019 EXTRA season and will form a U11 Boys EXTRA Team for boys born in the year 2009 if an adequate number of qualified players try out. Try outs are on May 19th and 31st from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Washington Elementary, 1100 Lilienthal Ln, Redondo Beach, CA 90278. Players must attend at least one of the try outs to be considered eligible for the team.
So how does it work?
All boys born in 2009 are eligible to try out for the U11B Extra Team. Extra season tryouts are conducted to assist in the formation of teams for the coming year. There will be two tryouts. Players are encouraged to participate in all tryout sessions available to them. An evaluation team, comprised of coaches and Board members who are not affiliated with a specific division, will evaluate the players and then will meet with the Board-approved head coach to select a team based upon the results of the tryouts and previous player performance. Extra teams play a regular season of 10-14 games against teams from AYSO Areas D (Beach Cities), F (Torrance) and P (Beverly Hills) through early December. In February, Extra teams will play in a postseason tournament to determine a “Champion” who will move on to play in the Section Extra Tournament (in March in Riverside). Winners at Section move on to the Western States Championships. Our EXTRA teams will be encouraged to participate in tournaments throughout the year to improve skills and to get a chance to travel and compete against teams from other Areas.
Finances?
EXTRA programs are primary programs, and therefore, Region funds may be used to support EXTRA activities, but only to the extent that they are consistent with the funds expended for the standard primary program. Each player will register and pay the appropriate fee for the regular fall AYSO season. If selected for the EXTRA team, the player will need to make a choice to accept that commitment and will be responsible to pay an additional fee. Fees for 2019 are expected to be up to $150. These fees will cover the costs for a second uniform; practice t-shirts, and a backpack. Please note that additional items like sweat suits and additional tournaments, etc. would be at an additional cost to each player. It will be up to each team to decide on these items.
