Region 17 Girls (12UG) Win Silver Medal at Western States!
/The Smurfs FC (U12G Core League Team Champs) took home the Silver Medal at the AYSO Western States Championship in Lake Forest, CA this past weekend. Western States brings together AYSO league champions and all-star teams from California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington states. In the Smurfs division, it was an all-California final four – Burlingame (San Francisco), Cutler-Orosi (Central CA), Paradise Hills (San Diego) and our North Redondo Smurfs. They won their semi final game against Paradise Hills (1-0) and then lost a close championship game to Cutler-Orosi (0-2) earning them the Silver Medal at Western States (2nd place out of approximately 1,350 U12G teams this fall).
The Smurfs end their season with 21 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie as well as being Area 1D Semifinalists, Region 17 and Section 1 Champions and Western States Runner Ups. They are the first Region 17 team to make the Western States final since the 2022 U12G All Star team (who won the whole thing) and match the furthest that any Region 17 league champion team has ever advanced at Western States.
The Smurfs FC Western States participants include; Sophia Lyons (Forward), Olivia Licon (Mid Field), Kennedy Lin (Defender), Taylor Williams (Forward), Catalina Woo (Mid Field), Sierra Allen (Defense), Natalie Cortez (Forward/Defense), Parker Lowry (Mid Field/Keeper), Pamu Sherpa (Keeper/Defense), Brooklyn Caton (Defense) and Coaches; Bill Caton, Jeff Lin and Mike Cortez.
